Blaise Castle Riding School - 26th June 1999

The start of the day. Claire Ackland poses for a photo shortly before the cherry-picker emerged and almost ran her over !

Steph approaches and gives me a couple of ground-rules about the camera !

The Wall ! A dozen of us had to transform this in 6 Hours !

The cherry-picker arives. Horses are frightened by this as Paul Harris and Mr C Dundee were soon to find out.

Carol receives driving instructions

Avid support for the low end but what about this 35ft sheer-drop ??!!

"Scotty - I shouldn't be here!!....beam me up ....quickly!!", panics Claire

Karen and ??? (Karen, send the name or I'll send this photo to Sesame Street !)

The 'Donkey-Kong' begins

A worthwhile challenge, brightening up one of the arena walls while around us the horses and the staff went about their day-to-day business giving pleasure, re-assurance and practical help to those less fortunate. Steph Friend who is a volunteer at the centre picked us a challenge that, I'm sure, moved us all. It was like a real-life game of Donkey-Kong scaling the wall with all those ladders. All we needed was a damsel-in-distress at the top..... however, Carol was quite happy in the cherry-picker !

I hope this photo does justice in showing the height of the wall !

From the middle of the arena.... this is not a small place !

Paul gets to the top of the ladder and realises that he has carried up an empty bucket !

Lawrence Youlden threatens to drown the camera.

Steph realises that the paint is grey rather than yellow !

Paul's experienced in this .... after all, look at the bridges on the M4 !

The newspaper goes on after it is discovered that the cherry-picker people have a habit of dropping the paint !

Lawrence suddenly realises that he's forgotten the anti-perspirant

You look surprised.... so am I.... I've forgotten your name !.... let me know and I'll invent a caption !

Mr C Dundee (name remains due to memory loss) gets high !

"If you don't put that camera away Andy... I'll sack you !", exclaims Claire

The painting continues....

..... Karen and her mate who were hiding in the corner, notch up a few more brieze-blocks

Keith Hollands finds a rather unapproachable bit

....but with teamwork from Carol, manages to get the paint on the floor in the right area

After a lot of reaching and getting splattered with paint-spots, things were proceeding okay. There was a worry that we didn't have enough paint, but with coffee, tea, etc. in the offing,..... we could always pop down to B&Q for some more...

Carol's husband, Carol and Claire

"Who left that ladder leaning on the new paint?"

Claire continues to drink while Carol crushes her cup into fragments !

The horses return. Paul and Mr C Dundee are stuck at the top of the cherry-picker while the rest of us have some sandwiches.

Chris ??  (Keith H's son).... the guy who managed to get into the tightest spots and slap on the paint.

The outside (to give you some perspective on the size of this thing !)

Steph loves paint.... and helps herself to another spoonful !

...Probably the 'midway' point...

The cherry-picker starts on the high bits

...so does Carol

Steph gets bored with painting

The Claire 'endorsed by the BDA' colgate look. This is 100% better than the last close-up this site dared to publish (click here)

Lawrence, before ascending the tall ladder and giving Keith/me a full expose due to his rather loose shorts

Keith, in the same position, although he is a bit more conservative/sensible ?

....just to give you a relative idea of the height

Paul and Mr C Dundee go up for more !

The afternoon lesson arrives back thus leaving the cherry-picker guys in the air for anothe half-hour

...almost finished !!

.....and.... someone who is ....... finished !

Down to earth again... Mr C Dundee licks the paintbrush as we have eaten all the sandwiches !

Not to worry though. Claire had kindly gone to the local chippy !

The Cherry-picker tries to make an exit......

...... until stopped by Steph who points out that the Windows need clearing of paint and PVA !

Ladders again please !

Claire loves the camera !

Mstr H is the same !

The wall, however, doesn't care !

Carol - after making sure the kids had gone

Carol's husband, with a bit of Lawrence and Mr C Dundee... it's hometime..... ALMOST....

Most of the group (Why is Keith wearing an aqualung ??)

Job Done !....
