Farewell ISD Helpdesk - 20/2/98

The following text was posted to the Corporate Noticeboard following the announcement of the transfer of IT helpdesk calls to Bristol. The ISD helpdesk had been in existence for many years under the leadership of Steve Davies.......

As you will be aware from the noticeboard issued earlier this week the ISD
Helpdesk in High Wycombe is being closed down today. This will be a sad moment
for us after having spent the last eight years dealing with all your IT queries
and problems. Whilst like all jobs it undoubtedly has its bad days we thought
that we had built something to be proud of. We would like to take this
opportunity to thank you all for your support, patience and understanding
during that process. Obviously we can't name you all but you've been a
brilliant bunch of customers and we will miss talking to you.

As a frequent user of your services, thanks to all of you for all your help
over the years - I shall miss your friendly voices and long-suffering
acceptance of my sillier problems!

20 02 98 10:39 Comments from Sandra Hill:
Thank you all for your help - I must say that you have had a bit to put up with
from us(!) and we've still managed to have a laugh.

All the very best to everyone and I hope there is an opportunity to speak with
you again.

20 02 98 10:44 Comments from Lorraine Taylor:
Through the tears of sadness, I would just like to splutter "Thank You.  I'll
miss each and every one of you.  There's just something about that Wycombe
accent that could never be replaced!.  Life will not be the same anymore.  Good
Luck to all of you.  You'll never be forgotten".

I'm sure the rest of TE1 feel the same way too.

20 02 98 10:45 Comments from Mary Clews:
I too am very sad that you are 'closing down'.  It too has been a pleasure
talking to you all over the years and I will certainly miss you all too.
I would like to thank all of you for supporting me and Secretaries department.
You have all been very patient and understanding with us.  It was great when in
difficulty just picking up the phone knowing that someone friendly was there to
help.  I would like to take this opportunity of wishing you all a very
successful future wherever you may be.

20 02 98 10:54 Comments from Lynda Needs:
I endorse all of those sentiments.  Good luck to you all, from "your friends in
the North" (CSD IFA North/Mids)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
20 02 98 10:56 Comments from Peter Coleman:
I'd like to add my thanks to the clearly heart-felt comments already made.

I have always had a positive and friendly response to my fairly basic requests,
and this has been a big help to me.  Essentially, I think we have benefitted
from good Customer Service, and if we are as good with our customers, I would
be well pleased.

So, you can be justifiably proud of your reputation and achievements.  Well
done and good luck.

Peter

PS suggest someone sends all these warm comments to Jackie Chappell so that she
can publish them in The Business

Along with everyone else we wish you all best wishes and good luck in the
future all that remains to be said is "control, alt and delete"

Steve and the Gang, what can I say but thanks for all your help in helping to
resolve the problems that were experienced on the Image system and other
integrated applications - you didn't half take some stick at times!

Hope the future goes well for all of you!

20 02 98 11:11 Comments from Paul Butler:
You have always been there for us with our Image problems and we are all
eternally grateful.

again!

20 02 98 11:16 Comments from Linda Flewker-Barker:
I'd also like to say that I'll miss your cheerful and happy banter (and the odd
tune down the phone line) - especially when you keep getting me to have to say
my surname every time - special regards to Nigel for that one!!

There were also a few nervous moments created for you some months ago when I
became the proud recipient of the "Jerusalem Virus" - my claim to fame!

I hope you all settle in well wherever you all move on to - the new crew have
got one heck of an act to follow.

To echo a previous comment "Control Alt Delete - do it twice!"

Bye & Best Wishes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
20 02 98 11:33 Comments from Jonathan Bailey:
Yes, we did always wonder what was going on between Vance and the ladies from
Central.  He was really their closet toy-boy!

it out now???

Bristolian Rhapsody

Colin, I just killed an app.
'cos it's name appeared in red
Pressed control-alt-delete now it's dead.
Colin, it had only just begun,
But now I've gone and thrown it all away.
Colin, ooh-ohh, didn't mean to make you cry,
If it's not back again this time tomorrow,
Carry on, carry on as if nothing ever happened.

Too late, core time has gone,
Sends shivers down the line, belly-aching all the time.
Goodbye, ev'rybody, I've got to go,
Gotta leave you all behind and erase the proof.
Colin, ooh, it didn't want to die,
I sometimes wish it'd never been launched at all.

Thanks for all your help and support.

transaction fails over the years.

All the best for the future

I can only re-iterate what the others have said - it is a very sad day and,
personally, I don't what I would have done without all your help!!  Not once
did any of you show impatience or frustration when dealing with a computer
expert (NOT) like myself - you were extremely helpful and courteous at all
times - THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

20 02 98 14:57 Comments from Joyce Marriott:

I'd like to add my thanks for all the help - especially supporting the Image
launch.  I don't fancy Vance personally, but I'd like to know what after-shave
he uses !

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
20 02 98 17:03 Comments from Eric Chapman:
Thanks for the help given to me and the area over the years particularly when
more major incidents have arisen.  I have many fond memories of amusing
sessions agreeing (or trying to) tannoy wordings and the like.

I find it very sad that the current team is disbanding and I hope your
successors will match the service you have provided over the years.  I will
also find the 'personal visits' I often resorted to at times of major incidents
far less convenient with them sat 100plus miles away!

Eric
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
20 02 98 17:14 Comments from Ruth Gregory:
What can I say, but to add our Many Thanks to you all for all the friendly help
and assistance you have given us both with WOD, Tandem and the Switchboard.
You have always been so patient and understanding.  Good luck to you all,
wherever you end up!

Ruth & Betty.

20 02 98 17:26 Comments from Steven Robinson:

express my personal thanks, and those from other members of Actuarial
Valuation, for the excellent service provided over the years.

Best wishes for the future.

03 03 98 15:09 Comments from Graeme Robinson:
We're sorry to see our help desk go...the Bristol one is such an improvement..
NOT!  There's no point in ringing it.  They're to busy and are instructing
callers to ring the areas concerned direct.  Is this the shape of things to
come?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
04 03 98 08:08 Comments from Julia Noel:
I'll definitely miss you all, now I'm based in Bristol.  Will anyone ever sort
my printer problems out!!!!

Thanks to all of you for all your help whilst I was in Cov and a special thanks
to Steve and Vance for being so patient with my on going problems in Bristol.
Good luck to you all.

Julia Noel
